We also have a specialist neuro physiotherapist who works with patients
who have suffered head injuries, strokes and neurological conditions,
such as Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis.
Treatment
We are hands on, manual therapists, which means our treatment may include:
• mobilisation of joints and soft-tissue
• soft-tissue massage,
• manipulation
• exercise programmes for stability, strength and mobility
• gait analysis
• taping for support and to alter pain.
We also use traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Intra Muscular Stimulation (IMS), electro-acupuncture, long-wave ultrasound, laser and other electrotherapy.
We encourage you to aid your recovery with specific exercises to work
on between your physiotherapy sessions.
Referrals
If you need further medical attention, such as x-rays, orthotics,
injection therapy or surgery, we will advise you appropriately. We will
liaise with your GP and other medical specialists as required.
Physiotherapy explained
Physiotherapy is a dynamic profession which
uses a range of treatment techniques to restore movement and function
within the body. It is science-based and progressive in its approach;
at its core is the exercise of clinical judgement and informed interpretation.
Chartered Physiotherapists study for their degree for three years, with
assessment and diagnosis being an ongoing process throughout those years
of study. Thereafter they maintain their expertise through continual
professional development (CPD), attending post-graduate courses, conferences
and seminars on a regular basis. All Chartered Physiotherapists are strictly
regulated by the guidelines set down by their professional body, the
Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
