Sports Physician
We are very fortunate to have the services of Sports Physician Dr Mukul Agarwal for when further investigation of a musculoskeletal injury is needed.  With his wide ranging medical experience, Dr Argawal can add the skills of detailed diagnosis, injection therapy and on-going management of a wide variety of injuries to the athletes and patients seen at PhysioActive. In addition, patients will benefit from his experience in dealing with systemic and other general medical matters.

He runs a clinic at PhysioActive every other Monday afternoon. Patients may be referred to him by the physios at PhysioActive, GPs and other therapists, or they can self-refer if they feel this is the most appropriate course of action.  Please contact us for further information on his fees.

Examples of the Sports Physician’s role:

Case Study A
An athlete attends PhysioActive with a shoulder pain which the physio diagnoses as an acute sub-acromial problem. In discussion with Dr Argawal, it is felt appropriate to refer the patient for an immediate injection to decrease the pain and increase the range of movement, thereby increasing his function. Once done this will allow the treating physio to help the patient with specific exercises, manual therapy and rehabilitative taping.

OUTCOME: The patient returns to his sport and full function.

Case Study B
A female patient has an ongoing back problem which is improving with physiotherapy treatment. However, there are still concerns regarding the possibility of some nerve root/discal problem in the spine.  The physio refers the patient to Dr Argawal for further investigation and an MRI scan. The subsequent report indicates a small disc bulge (slipped disc) and further management of the condition involves seeking an opinion from a spinal neurosurgeons.
OUTCOME: With a clear understanding of the condition, the patient is referred back to PhysioActive for specific rehabilitation and management of the condition.
